John is an award winning attorney with a track record of success for his clients and for the citizens of California. In January 2010, he had the honor of receiving the Consumer Advocate of the Year award from the Consumer Attorneys of San Diego, acknowledging his many achievements on behalf of the citizens of California, not just his own clients. He has been a member of California Bar since 1992 and is admitted to all California Courts. He is a Sustaining Member of Consumer Attorneys of San Diego and a member of their Board of Directors since 2001. He is an active member of Consumer Attorneys of California and served as an at large board member in 2000. John has twice been recognized with Achievement Awards from the President of the Consumer Attorneys of San Diego for his efforts on behalf of the organization, (2000 and 2009). He is also a member of the San Diego County Bar Association.
John’s practice has focused on representing plaintiffs in personal injury matters, including catastrophic injuries, wrongful death claims, and injuries to minors. He routinely handles cases arising from automobile accidents, premises liability, products liability, medical/dental malpractice and American Disability Act claims. He also has an active practice representing buyers/tenants in disputes arising from real estate transactions, including landlord tenant disputes, indoor air quality and “failure to disclose” claims. He also represents individuals and companies in business disputes and resulting litigation.
John has a special interest in representing consumers with regard to disputes with liability and health insurance companies. He is often retained to address liens and reimbursement claims asserted by insurance companies against consumers. John has litigated what has been termed the “Hanif” issue throughout California. He is lead counsel on the lien issue in the landmark Howell v. Hamilton Meats case, where he helped win a 3-0 decision on behalf of consumers in the 4th District Court of Appeal. The case is now pending before the California Supreme Court.

John has presented at numerous continuing legal educations seminars throughout the State of California. He has chaired the annual CASD Lien Update Seminar since its inception in 2002 as well as CASD’s “Tuesday Night at the Lab” program.
John is a graduate of the University of Redlands (1986, B.A, Political Science/History). Attending law school at California Western School of Law in San Diego, he earned numerous Jurisprudence Awards, representing the top in class honors. He graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1992.
